Dar Maktoub
Dar Maktoub
Restored riad with 9 rooms south of Agadir, run by a Belgian couple since 2008, Green Key certified and focused on Franco-Moroccan cuisine.
Dar Maktoub is a nine-room guesthouse located south of Agadir, about ten minutes from the city center. A restored riad that opened in early 2003 and was taken over by a Belgian couple in 2008, the property has held Green Key certification since 2016 and features Franco-Moroccan cuisine, expansive gardens, and a 20-meter infinity pool.
Why choose Dar Maktoub
- Intimate scale: just nine rooms, away from large beach resorts
- Recognized ecological commitment (Green Key certified since 2016)
- Strategic location between Agadir, Souss-Massa National Park, and three renowned golf courses
- Franco-Moroccan table working with local fishermen in season
- Familial atmosphere shaped by Belgian owners
The spirit of the house
Dar Maktoub operates more as a home than a hotel. The Belgian couple who took over in 2008 have shaped the property as a guesthouse experience: dinner together in the dining room overlooking the gardens, aperitifs shared on the terrace, afternoons spent with fellow travelers by the pool. The library furnished with a working fireplace serves as an evening lounge during the cooler winter months, which can be surprisingly chilly on the southern Moroccan coast.
The enclosed gardens are one of the property's strongest features. They regularly host outdoor yoga sessions and allow guests to dine beneath the shade of trees or poolside, depending on the time of day and season.
The rooms
The house has nine air-conditioned rooms, each equipped with an en-suite bathroom featuring a shower and satellite television with international channels. Wi-Fi is available complimentary throughout the property. The limited number of rooms ensures personalized service and a peaceful atmosphere, without the turnover typical of larger hotel operations.
Dining and amenities
Dar Maktoub's table showcases Franco-Moroccan cuisine prepared from daily market finds. In season, the chef works with langoustines and oysters brought in by local fishermen. Depending on your preference, meals can be served in the dining room, on the terrace, poolside, or as light wraps in the gardens. Weekends feature barbecues where guests gather around grilled selections. The bar offers a range of Moroccan wines and international classics.
For relaxation, you have access to:
- a 20-meter infinity pool
- a covered terrace and barbecue area
- a library with fireplace
- organized yoga sessions in the gardens
Geographic location
Dar Maktoub sits south of Agadir, approximately ten minutes by car from the city center and beaches. Agadir Al Massira Airport is about twenty kilometers away; a taxi transfer typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on traffic. The property serves as a comfortable base for exploring the Souss region without experiencing the bustle of tourist beachfront areas.
