Temperatures fluctuate based on geographical location, with year-round sunshine, winter precipitation, and scorching summers inland. Morocco's diverse climates mean you'll find your ideal destination at virtually any time of year, tailored to your preferences.

The climate along the Atlantic coast is temperate year-round, whether summer or winter. The weather is particularly mild, with average temperatures of 23.5°C in summer and 12°C in winter. Light breezes refresh the air during summer, and winters never turn bitterly cold. The ocean moderates both daily and seasonal temperature swings. The rainy season begins in October and can extend through May in northern Maroc. However, rainfall is inconsistent and may decrease by half from north to south. Winters are mild and summers remain cool, allowing you to explore southern regions almost year-round, and the north comfortably from May through September.

The Saharan climate covers the zone south of the Atlas mountain range. It is quintessentially desert terrain. Rainfall is virtually nonexistent. Weather is highly variable. Winters average around 14°C, while summer temperatures can climb above 35°C. Desert nights are bitterly cold in winter, yet days remain warm even during this season. Vegetation is scarce. This is a landscape of sand dunes and rocky desert. Summer brings oppressive heat, but cooler temperatures return at night with pleasant evening conditions. For travel to these regions, October through November are ideal, aligning with the autumn season.

Inland, climate varies with altitude. Summers are warm and pleasant in the mountains, suffocating in the plains and major cities. Winters bring intense cold at higher elevations and humidity; summer days are hot with very cool nights. If you wish to visit cities like Fez or Marrakech, autumn and spring offer the most agreeable weather. Humidity is low in these regions. Average winter temperatures hover around 10°C, and summer temperatures reach approximately 27°C. Frost occasionally appears in winter, and certain summer days can be extremely hot.

The Atlas Mountains experience a mountain climate. Precipitation is abundant in the Middle Atlas and lighter in the High Atlas. Snowfall can be heavy in winter and persist through May. Average temperatures range from −18°C in winter to 20°C in summer. It is best to visit these regions from June through September.

The Mediterranean climate is hot and dry in summer, mild in winter. The Rif region receives the most rainfall. Rain falls from November through January with little variation between seasons. The hinterland is the wettest area, with winter snowfall and relatively cold temperatures. Rainfall can reach 2,000 mm in higher zones, while coastal areas receive only 50 mm. A notable difference exists between east and west. The east is drier due to its sheltered position, while the west faces Atlantic depressions, making it more humid. The Rif chain boasts dense, verdant vegetation, while the east features scrubland and wild pines. Average temperatures range from 11°C in winter to 25°C in summer. Spring, summer, and early autumn are the most pleasant periods to explore this region, with consistently agreeable weather and mild temperatures.
